Color vs. Cashmere Longevity. What I learned on the workshop floors ?
When I started building “one good jumper”, I knew colour mattered. What I didn’t realise was how much it affects longevity, softness and all over experience. So I keep asking textile engineers and production heads at knitting facilities: "Which colours perform best over time"?
Here’s what I hear most frequently:
1. Best performers: Natural undyed shades (ivory, beige, brown), melanges (mixes of natural + dyed fibre), and light grey (still investigating why grey, but it ages beautifully).
2. Worst performers: overly bright colours (think neon green coloured cashmere jumper).
3. Dark shades require a through check: black and navy from reputable spinners last well. In mass market quality, however, they’re might be dyed from leftovers of other colours, which weakens the fibre.
So behind the simple choice of “beige or navy” lies a deep science of fibre, colour, and time.
