Made to look equally refined on men and women, this piece whispers timeless. Once on, it feels like the scent of an old library and evokes emotions of smooth morning jazz. Truly elegant, effortlessly cozy, and from the very first prototype, a clear bestseller.

Inspired by our love of old libraries and the heritage of Guernsey jumpers, The Library reimagines tradition with modern elegance. Artisanally produced in Italy.

This cardigan is crafted from 100% 2/28 (2-ply) cashmere. Kitted in 7 gauge, generous, warm, chunky. The yarn is spun by a heritage mill in Cagli, Italy. It is knitted in a women-led, three-generation workshop in Perugia, Italy. The are produced by a small family atelier in Turin and made of the Tahiti pearl shell.

The texture is inspired by the original Guernsey jumpers, where each cable symbolised good luck. Its silhouette nods to the classical cardigans of the early 1920s, unchanged in essence ever since.

To ensure durability and prevent stretching, the sleeves are double-layered.

The piece is finished with Garzato, a traditional Italian washing technique that gives the yarn a velvety, soufflé-like texture, exceptionally soft, unmistakably refined.

Raw material origins

Inner Mongolia region, the motherland of the finest cashmere.

Yarn origins

Yarn is produced by the Italian mill Cariaggi® in Cagli, Italy, a house with deep traditions and heritage-quality excellence. The company has been managed by the founding family for three generations. Cariaggi® company is certified according to industry standards for safety, animal welfare, and best practices. For details on applicable certifications, please refer to the producer’s page.

Knitting and finishing

Produced artisanally in a women-led, women-owned workshop in Perugia, Italy, now in its third generation. The workshop employs local women exclusively and is dedicated to preserving artisanal traditions. Many stages of production are still carried out by hand.

Labelling

Labels are produced in Germany, Dortmund by a third-generation, family-owned business. They are made from recycled polyester and are OEKO-TEX® standard 100 & DIN EN 71-3 certified.
